3 free activities you must try in Dubai

Dubai Fountain, United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.)

Dubai is a glamorous city with plenty of world-class experiences and activities waiting to be explored around every corner. While these experiences can be costly, there are a number of other activities you can try for free in Dubai! So, during your visit don’t break the bank and try the following activities.

The Dubai Fountain

It’s Dubai’s most famous tourist spot and for a very good reason. The Dubai Fountain is ideally located near Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall. So, once you’re in the area you can actually get a lot done.

At the Dubai Fountain witness a free, 5-minute spectacular water and light show that takes place at regular intervals. The music playlist is also enviable, covering different genres including Witney Huston, Michael Jackson, and Andrea Bocelli. Here you’re bound to find a perfect tune to leave you in awe.

What to keep in mind before your visit? It is, after all, a busy spot that draws a large number of spectators especially during showtimes. Luckily the show can be watched from different areas, so make sure you walk around to find a good, comfortable spot. Also, if you’re hoping for a quick visit, check the website for the exact showtimes and account for traffic (both human and cars).

Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary

The gifts of nature are often free. If you want to skip the zoo, get a taste of the outdoor and wildlife at this quaint sanctuary in the middle of the city. In the wetlands, expect to see thousands of pink flamingos and other bird species such as great egrets, reef herons, sandpipers and so much more. Free to the public, the 6-kilometer sanctuary is also very close to the city and you won’t need to travel much to get a look.

We suggest you pack an afternoon picnic and head out to any of the three viewing decks. Here you can spend the afternoon admiring the wildlife and landscapes (mangroves, lagoons) over a delicious meal. Don’t forget to pack your binoculars and keep in mind, it’s only open during daylight (up till 4 pm).

Alserkal Avenue

Discover one of Dubai’s cultural hubs in Al Qouz. An artfully designed warehouse, this place is a haven for art lovers. Here you’ll find everything from art galleries, exhibitions, workshops to cinema screenings and sweet little cafes. Free of charge, you can spend a few hours admiring art or even get lucky enough to watch a free movie screening.

To find out the gallery timings, events or exhibitions, check out the website and plan your trip accordingly. Keep in mind; food options are limited and come fuelled especially if you are on a tight budget.
